about
January 28th, 2024 is my 8 month anniversary of sobriety. "crash and burn" is a reflection of adjustment to major changes in life, where I found myself longing for my historic days of self sabotage via substance abuse. Once you're out of the cycle of binge drinking and going on benders, it's easy to romanticize the simplicity of numbing out your feelings and emotions in the name of a good time with friends. It almost seems like the simpler life. This song is a love letter, a breakup letter, a eulogy, and a proclamation: my history will forever be a part of me, and it's a part of me I strive to never see again.
lyrics
Better this is left unsaid I
Need it like I do a hole in the head
Pull me out of the danger zone
I’m 30 minutes and 7 months from home
Take me there, I’m not scared anymore it can’t be as bad as I’ve heard before
And I, want to crash and burn
cause I miss the way it hurts
What goes up then must come down
Stranded on the outside of town
Sunrise treks to my front door
Here again but really, what is it for?
And I want to crash and burn
Cause I miss the way it hurts
Don’t threaten me with a good time
Because that has never cost me a dime
I drank for free and it took from me
Naivity, curiosity
Of what lies behind closed doors
Plates and bodies on the floor
Camaraderie of inebriates
I miss my fucking innocence
And I want to crash and burn
Cause I miss the way it hurts
